Kindergarten Registration

We welcomed a large number of future Cardinals last night at our Kindergarten Registration.  The children were filled with excitement as they toured their new school family.  A special 'THANK-YOU" goes out to our students, staff and parents who helped to make such a special evening for our new students and families. Registration continues through to March 3rd.

100th Day of School

Some students in the early primary classrooms celebrated the 100th Day of School.  This exciting day is filled with engaging numeracy activities.
Check out some of the fun in the photos below.

Girls Basketball Feeder School Tournament

At the Feeder School Tournament on Friday, the girls came out strong defeating St. Anthony with their amazing tenacious defence and continuous hustle.  They moved on to play Holy Cross where the girls played a tight game with high intensity.  Unfortunately, the girls came up short, but this did not keep them from spiralling back against St. Mary's with a HUGE win to end pool play.  The girls advanced to the consolation game agains St. Anthony, where we witnessed some of the most exciting basketball all day.  In the end, a long shot with 4 seconds on the clock fell just short, resulting in a one point loss.  The girls showed amazing sportsmanship and pride!  Congratulations to Olivia S for being presented with The Hustle award and Hayley M. who was named team MVP.  Special mention to Kira for her leadership throughout the day and to Emery for best defence!
Great work girls!

Boys Basket Ball - Feeder School Tournament

The Senior Boys Basketball Team went to Villanova on Friday to play in the Feeder School Tournament.  The boys played Stella Maris first, beat St. Mary's in the second game and made a good comeback in the second half against St. Joseph.  Unfortunately, the boys lost in the consolation game against Stella Maris with a score of 34 to 30.  We would like to congratulate Joey S. for winning the Mr. Hustle Award and Matteo P. for winning MVP.  Nice work boys!

KISS ‘N RIDE Reminder
There have been some near accidents involving vehicles and children at the Church parking lot when dropping off students in the morning and picking up after school. Please be cautious if using this area. We encourage the use our KISS ‘N RIDE DROP-OFF Program located on Divine Street (near the church).  The drop-off program runs from 8:010-8:25 every morning rain or shine.
The KISS ‘N RIDE allows parents to drive through a marked safe arrival zone and our volunteers will ensure the safe entry into our schoolyard for your child. Students in primary grades are escorted into their designated areas by one of our volunteers.
Adult and student volunteers are at the school to assist with this very worthwhile child safety program. If you would like to volunteer for any number of days please provide your name, phone number, and name of your child in the space below. Please return to the school office.

National Sweater Day

National Sweater Day is February 2, 2017

National Sweater Day is a fun way to learn about the importance of saving energy and to inspire you to use less heat all winter. Heating accounts for 80% of residential energy use in Canada and is a significant source of emissions. If all Canadians lowered their thermostats by just 2 degrees Celsius this winter, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 4 megatons – that’s equivalent to shutting down a 600 mega watt coal-fired power station or taking nearly 700,000 cars off the road!

Since 2010, over a million Canadians have participated in National Sweater Day at their schools, workplaces and homes.

With a small twist in the event, Sacred Heart Cardinals wore their UGLY sweaters to school on Friday.  A fun contest to see who could wear the UGLIEST SWEATER brought out some wonderful school spirit.  Please see our winners from the Primary, Junior and Senior divisions.                                                          Nice work Cardinals!
