During the season of Lent, Mrs. Guthrie’s Grade 6 class from Sacred Heart School in LaSalle donated items to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. The idea to give back to their community came from the students themselves. After learning about global issues such as poverty, malnutrition, water scarcity and many more, the students realized how fortunate they were to live in Canada and have most everything they needed. The students donated grocery store gift cards, clothes, toys, books, games, and toiletries. With the assistance of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the donations were given to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. The students commented on how it felt good to help those less fortunate than themselves. One student stated, “I wanted to give because I would hope that others would help me if I needed it.” Mrs. Guthrie was very proud of her students for taking on this mission and showing real compassion for those in need.
